Thoughts Following The Republican Debate …
I still have my Kerry-Edwards yard signs, pins, bumper stickers, magnets and sundry loser paraphernalia from 2004. Don’t really know why. I hoard. (Thank goodness this isn’t a podcast lest my reputation be tarnished! For the record, I’m not even nappy-headed.)
Waste of money, that was. Not to mention a waste of time. It took me forever to get the bumper sticker aligned just-so. And those wire pokey stick-it-in-the-ground yard signs? They have a mind of their own. They tend to seriously flail. I risked putting an eye out just getting it to stay put, but finally had it under control after about half an hour.
All for naught. We still lost.
Great googly moogly. Who’d have thunk it? The king of all village idiots was re-coronated. Lots of folks apparently queued up for the short bus that day.
So his days are now numbered. Bush begone, and good riddance. I’m afraid, though, that unless we step up to the plate, we may very well end up with more of the same ol’ same ol’, albeit bearing a different “Hi, My Name Is … ” lapel sticker.
As Lewis Black said in reference to the 2004 election:
“The fact of the matter is the Democrats not being able to find somebody to defeat George Bush is beyond belief. It’s stunning.
“It would be like finding a normal person who would lose in the Special Olympics.”
We’ll hopefully do better this time around. Obama, Clinton, Edwards … any one will do. Take your pick, get your yard signage now, and don’t forget the safety glasses. Trust me on that one. Oh yeah, and voting might not be such a bad idea, either.

Funny how often people forget to VOTE. Sorry about your signs. Hey, Edwards is young.

My ‘04 Kerry/Edwards signs are resting in peace, right here in this very room. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get the chance to white out the Kerry and wrangle the things back into the ground this year.

Lewis black is one of the funniest comediannes out there.
When my family lived in NY, we would go vote as a family. This is a tradition I started to ensure they voted.

Doug, I certainly agree that we could do a better job selecting strong, electable presidential candidates.
Having said that, I have to vent just a little about the way the Republicans play the game. When you face opponents who will stoop to any level of dastardliness — fear-mongering, hate-mongering, mudslinging “swiftboat” attacks, attempts to demonize your core religious beliefs, petty innuendo, outright lying — in order to win, who could possibly withstand all that?
Liberals tend to want to play nice, appeal to logic, common human decency, and basic equality. And well we should. However, the modern “God-fearing” conservative Republican will say and do anything to gain and then hold on to power. Their politics of hatred and deception is tearing this great country of ours apart.

I understand what you are saying, Doug R. One thing I learned a long time ago is not to let others change who you are. Dems are all those things you mentioned and that’s the beauty of our party.

I try to remember to save campaign buttons, from all sides. They’re part of history and don’t take up much space. I have to hold my nose when I cough up the $ for a Republican button, though…..
One of my fantasies is that decades from now I can sell the Repub buttons on eBay to a Brandon or a Jen, make a really tidy piece of change, and donate that money to some left-wing cause that the Repubs worked extra hard to trash.
(I’m white-knucklin’ it today … Day 2 of Watching the View detox.)

And still the media over and over again, ad nauseum, continues to refer to the Republican gang as the “values voters.” WTF??

And little navigator — Lewis Black is hysterical and oh so spot on! I sometimes wonder when watching him, though, if he might keel over from cardiac arrest, he does tend to get worked up.

Sybil83 — one day at a time. Call your support person if need be. I’m not quite ready to give it up yet, but maybe one day.
I like your strategy, though, of hocking the Repub buttons for leftist causes. Sounds like a plan!

Sybil is off the wagon!

I’ve always felt like a naughty Democrat because I don’t put bumper stickers on my car.

“We’ll hopefully do better this time around. Obama, Clinton, Edwards … any one will do.”
ITA! Anyone of them are more qualified than the Republicans. Being sane also scores big points with me. Did you hear the way the Republican candidates were talking about Iraq? By the way, I still have my Kerry/Edwards sticker on my minivan. Hopefully I can cover the Kerry part and show off the Edwards side.
“One of my fantasies is that decades from now I can sell the Repub buttons on eBay to a Brandon or a Jen, make a really tidy piece of change, and donate that money to some left-wing cause that the Repubs worked extra hard to trash.”
Sybil83, that’s a brilliant idea.

Stupid people have to have a party too. Er, I mean selfish people. You know I came late to the View detoxing, may I ask why? Whoopie is delicious. Ebay, great idea. I have a few buttons around, but I kept busy being defeated in local arena of INDIANA(25 years ago). Doug R…looks like you’ll be needin’ to cover up ether everything but the y or a.

A good friend of mine collects political buttons. It’s really cool to see buttons from years before I was born.

“Sybil is off the wagon!”
Yes, well, it’s a hard call for me, not knowing how to best register my protest about the one troll “Jen”: do I leave the blog or stay and protest. I registered my complaint on Winnie’s blog, which was then deleted, and in an e-mail to Winnie. I hope Winnie gets more e-mail complaints about her lumping all her posters in with the troll “Jen.” Not sure what else I can do…
As for profiting from the Republicans, I wonder if the sales from all the Bush countdown products go toward any leftie causes. My only problem with buying any of those things is that I don’t want to have a calendar on my desk with Bush’s face or quotes on it to have to look at!
February 4th, 2008 at 1:38 am
I happen to have one of those Bush countdown calendars on my desk. Now that you mention it, though, it is an unpleasant daily reminder that he’s still around.
As far as being “off the wagon”… welcome back!
