“One Cold War Is Enough”
Vladimir Putin’s being mean again. Pentagon chief Robert Gates, said that “one cold war is enough” in response to Vladimir Putin’s assertion on Saturday that the U.S. has incited other countries to seek nuclear weapons to defend themselves. Gates is planning a trip to Moscow to talk with Putin. Gates has been recently urging NATO members to remember the promises they made to provide military and economic aid to Afghanistan. If you’d like, you can read that story here.
I realize that we’ve never been the best of friends with Russia, but it seems that Putin has been somewhat of a sourpuss lately. Just because democracy isn’t working for his country doesn’t mean he should take his grumpiness out on us. Seriously though, it looks like that whole side of the world is slowly reaching a consensus in regards to us. The verdict is, they aren’t partial. And I’m not even talking about the countries we are at war with. I mean our “allies.”
And I think Robert Gates, unlike Rumsfeld, understand this.
From Time.com:
” In the run-up to the Iraq war, Rumsfeld sharply criticized nations opposed to the conflict — specifically France and Germany — and referred to them as part of “Old Europe.” Without mentioning Rumsfeld’s name, Gates said some people have tried to divide the allies along lines such as East and West, North and South.
“I’m even told that some have even spoken in terms of ‘old’ Europe versus ‘new,’” Gates said. “All of these characterizations belong in the past.” ”
I believe that this country is capable of a lot of good, but I also think we’d be capable of so much more good if we had other countries on our side.

You’re right, the U.S. could do alot more good around the world if it was inclusive, rather than exclusive. Even though I live in the UK, I don’t agree with ours, or your foreign policy. There’s a reason other countries aren’t on your side, rather than blaming them, the U.S. should look at what it’s doing wrong.
